MSF primarily consults cost of labour in a given market together with our organisation-internal policy framework as basis for our salary grids. Such market data are often scarce or of uncertain reliability for an organisation as complex as MSF. Our researchers and specialists therefore conduct regular market analysis in the countries in which we locally employ people. Data are collected in-depth interviews with representative comparator employers in that local labour market. In these we discuss general working conditions, compensation and benefits. The Benchmarking Unit provides both regular studies as well as ad-hoc surveys driven by emergencies, rapidly changing labour markets and economic turmoil.
